Leif Solem started singing in church when he was nine years old. He studied the violin, and the cello, and the piano, and then discovered the drums when he moved to Taiwan in high school. Soon after that he taught himself to play the guitar. By that time a song of his had been performed at CBGB's on Manhattan's famed Lower East Side, and he was on his way. But where? He began to make recordings on boomboxes, caring more about content than sound quality, until eventually his friends pitched in and got him a four-track to save their own ears. Since that time he has recorded untold numbers of songs, worn out two four-tracks, and played innumerable houseparties all over New York City and New York State, among other places.
